چکیده:

Co3O4 spinel catalysts were synthesized by sol gel combustion and alkali oxidative coprecipitation methods and their activities in combustion of toluene, as a molecule model ofaromatic compound were investigated. Physico-chemical properties of samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and SEM. All samples showed spinel structure which confirmed by XRD andFTIR techniques. Co3O4 spinel obtained from sol gel method was as grain with mean size 150-250 nm, whereas the sample resulted from precipitation method was in the form of nanotubes with mean diameter 25-40 nm. Activity was observed to be chiefly governed by small crystallite sizeand high surface area which give rise to more easily accessible active sites. Interestingly, the behaviour of some of nano oxide was superior to that of Co3O4 (sol gel) and even Pt/γ-Al2O3 in combustion of toluene
