Regarding to increase air pollution, fossil fuel demand and serious global warming, efficient energy systems and new energy conversion processes, are urgently needed. Fuel cells have emerged as advanced thermodynamic systems with great promise in achieving high energy/power efficiency with reduced environmental loads. The use of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) has the potential of reducing operating cost and emission of green house gas. In this study the application of SOFC in power generation plants has been evaluated. To assess the economic and environmental effects, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) has been used. Results indicate that the application of SOFC in power generation plants can provide cost-effective and also it can contribute with carbon reduction.
