The effect of variable soft sphere (VSS) model  for modeling the inter-molecular collision for simulation of a rarefied binary gas mixture flow of Argon and Helium inside a rotating cylinder is investigated using the direct simulation of Monte-Carlo (DSMC) method. The incorporation of the VSS model for modeling the intermolecular collision shows improvement on the results of simulation using the DSMC method when compared with those using the variable hard sphere (VHS) model  for the similar simulation. This is due to the fact that the value of the deflection angle for modeling the intermolecular collision is strongly depends on the value of the VSS exponent, however the effect of the so called VSS exponent is not considered in the modeling of the inter-molecular collision using the VHS model. The values of the VSS exponent depend on the values of the energy exists in the inter-molecular collision. Therefore, as the temperature of the gas mixture increases, the effect of the VSS model on the results of the simulation is more pronounced.
