Two common anodes that use in impressed current cathodic protection systems of oil and gas refineries are high silicon iron and Metal mix oxide (MMO) anodes. Their performances and efficiencies vary based on shapes, current density, consumption rate, etc. selection and application of cathodic protection system and types of anodes are related to environmental conditions, design philosophy, and economical considerations.In this paper the technical, practical and economical results of application of high-silicon cast iron andmetal mix oxide (MMO) anodes in two gas refineries (‘A’ and ‘B’) are studied.
