In this paper a new market simulator is introduced in which market participants’ behavior is modeled using particle swarm optimization. Based on the presented simulator results, the interaction between energy and reserve market prices is analyzed in a sample joint energy and reserve market which is cleared simultaneously by the ISO. The statistical characteristics of energy and reserve clearing prices under different load levels are extracted. Also it is stated that the market prices of energy and reserve can be modeled using joint probability distribution functions.
