چکیده:

In this paper, it is attempted to give general concept of smart fluids. First, a general definition of smart materials and some common types of these materials are given. Then the paper is focused on smart fluids. Smart fluids are classified according to their external stimuli, dispersed particle size and the effect of the external stimuli on these fluids properties. For each type it is tried to state the performance and the mechanism of external stimuli effect on the considered fluid properties, general governing equations, advantages and disadvantages of using these fluids, applications of the considered fluids in industry. Also, it is tried to review the previous researches that have been carried out till now.
