Along to commitment to sustainable development and environmental necessities and according to violence of sulfate ions concentration in polymeric coagulation plant’s wastewater outlet, it is necessary to control of release of ions under acceptable legal regulations, with comparing some methodologies to control of sulfate ions elimination in wastewater, like chemical methods (lime, Barium salts, …) and membrane technologies ns cost of all methods and some environmental consequences of them, anaerobic biological treatment considered as a optimized method to control of sulfate ions concentrations in industrial wastewater. Nowadays, most industries of tapioca and rice starch production have tendency to produce starch in both native and modified starch for increasing its value. From this modification, it will result in high sulfate concentration to combined wastewater that whether effects to the performance of the existed anaerobic treatment. During anaerobic treatment of sulfate-containing wastewater, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) compete with methane-producing bacteria (MPB) for the available electron donors so it may potentially undermine the effectiveness of the treatment process in term of quality and quantity of the biogas production.
