چکیده:

In recent years there have been many attentions to free zones and especially the establishment of industrial activity in the Persian Gulf. Such activities could bring irreparable damage to thereproductive areas and biological diversity. Among Iranian islands in Persian Gulf, Qeshm Island due to its geographical location, social and commercial properties, economic activities ofcitizens and residents, the extent of population and also its proximity to the important port ofAbbas, ports of Khemir and Kong and Lengeh, became a zone or free port to achieve the following objectives:- Receive goods from abroad and its distribution between the ports and islands of thePersian Gulf and Arabs. – Entry of raw and semi-anufactured materials and changing to final goods ormanufacturing materials for export or domestic use or consumption in the region. So any industrial establishment in Qeshm should be done with consideration of environmentalissues. The purpose of this study is evaluation of contamination in coastal sediments of Qeshm and environmental impacts that may establish sponge iron plant in Qeshm. For this purpose, firstly all chemical, physical and biological properties of the region were determined and secondly toassess contamination coastal sediment, sampling was done in depth of 50 cm of water in Qeshm.After preparing the sediments, physical and chemical tests were performed. According to the results of two experiments, concentrations of heavy metals and the amounts of organic loadspresented in each samples were determined. Comparing these results with international standardsand finally, according to dendrogram obtained of cluster analysis, it can be concluded that the contamination of area is low now. From an industrial viewpoint, southeastern part of island has least detrimental effects for the environment.
