In this study, the frictional contact behavior of sliding surfaces of shear band is investigated. During the sliding of two frictional contact surfaces, the stick–slip motion is simulated by the help of strong discontinuity within an extended finite element procedure. The contact surface passes through the elements in which the Heaviside jump function is used to represent the discontinuity within the elements. Finally, the results of a numerical example are compared with other available models in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.
