In this paper a robust intelligent controller isadopted in order to fulfil maximum power point tracking(MPPT) algorithm for permanent magnet synchronousgenerator (PMSG) with the application of wind turbines.Conventional linear PI controller is simple and easy toimplement but it has the drawback of dependence on systemparameters especially in a wind energy conversion system withlarge amount of uncertainties as a sequence of wind speedvariation. Due to inherent robustness to uncertainties in fuzzylogic controller, it can be used effectively in wind energyconversion system. However designing procedure and gaintuning could be a challenging approach. In this paper theinitial parameters of FLC are obtained from the parameters ofits well-tuned linear counterpart. This is a flexible controlscheme that takes advantage of the best features of fuzzycontrol, robustness to uncertainties, and of PI controller,simple tuning procedure. This intelligent controller is designedin presence of mechanical parameters as well as mechanicaltorque disturbance, which is the most concerned uncertainty inwind turbines. Simulation results clearly shows performance ofproposed robust fuzzy PI control system in maximum powerpoints tracking in a wind energy conversion system.
