This paper presents a novel harmonic model for compact fluorescent lamps and also investigates the attenuation characteristics of CFLs. In the recent years CFLs have gained widespread acceptance due to their energy savings and longer life concerns. Although CFLs consumes less energy, however they absorb extremely distorted current waveforms since their total harmonic distortion exceeds 100%, resulting in high current harmonic injections into distribution networks and this concern of using CFLs to a high degree. The presented harmonic Norton model is a simple and accurate model which can consider the impact of supply voltage harmonics. These characteristics of proposed Model make it suitable for analyzing the impacts of large number of CFLs on the electric power networks. The Model verified by the comparison with the measurements and also the CFLs attenuation effect investigated by the model. The results verified the accuracy of the model.
